Standards Compliance

Working with IT developers
Sigmer Technologies, the International Save the Children Content Management System (CMS) has been developed, which allows accessible content to be added by staff from a range of locations across the world. Design templates have been created which conform to all W3C Web Content Accessibility Priority Level 3 standards. Through a process of regular site audits we aim to comply with all Priority Level 1 & Level 2 and most of Priority Level 3 guidelines throughout our site pages.
-
Design templates used to create this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
-
All cascading style sheets (CSS) validate using the W3C CSS Validator.
Navigation Aids
-
All pages contain a 'skip navigation' link for speech browser users who may wish to avoid repeated verbalisation of navigation lists. To jump the speech browser to the start of the main content on a page Windows users should press Alt + the key 's' and Macintosh users should press Control + the key 's '.
-
All pages include a site search box (access key 4).

This site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets or stylesheets are switched off you will still be able to navigate around the site and view essential content.
-
This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified 'text size' option in visual browsers. If you need to change the text size in your web browser, detailed instructions are available in your browser Help files.

Links
-
Where necessary links have been assigned 'title' attributes which describe the target in greater detail.
-
Wherever possible text links are written to make sense when read out of context.
Images
-
All content images used in this site include a descriptive alt attribute. Those images which are purely decorative or used for layout include a null alt attribute.
-
Complex images may include longdesc tags or inline descriptions to explain the significance of each image to non-visual readers.
