National Assessments

Country Assessment Reports in English

National Assessments of the policies and practices concerning separated children seeking asylum have been completed in the majority of countries in Western Europe and in some of the Central European countries and Baltic States.

These Assessments were completed for the first time in 1999/2000. In 2003 the Separated Children in Europe Programme’s NGO partner in 14 EU-states co-ordinated the updating of these assessments or conducted entirely new assessments.

The majority of the reports from 1999/2000 are only available in English, but a few have been translated into the native language. These native language assessments can be found on the Native Language of this site or by clicking on the European flag.

Three reports have been completed summarising the contents of the national assessments.

One report covers the national assessments from 1999 from 15 EU states and Norway and provides recommendations for action at EU and national levels. The second report summarises the situation in Central Europe and the Baltic States. A third report compares the findings from the reports/updates from 2003. The three comparative analyses may be downloaded from reports page.

Please Note : The period covered by each report varies and information contained therein may therefore not be entirely up to date.
